Make a BIG Goal

By Tana M. Mann Easton, Lead Efficiency Engineer

What big goals do you have?  How can you plan small to start working toward that big goal?

Personally, I have a big goal to visit all fifty states.  I have a small plan to try and visit at least one new state every year.  Maybe you want to visit all the national parks or all the Major League Baseball stadiums or all amusement parks with big roller coasters.  Large travel goals require breaking the goal down into more bite size portions and figuring out when those portions can be tackled.  And as you tackle each small portion, your big goal is closer to completion.

Maybe you want to read all of Dickens’ works.  How can you plan small to make that happen?  Doing a few Google searches could probably identify how many books that would include and how many pages are in each book.  If you add up all of those pages and divide by approximately how many pages you could read each day, you could come up with a manageable way to break that BIG goal down enough to make it eventually happen.

Consider a BIG goal when you’re goal setting.  It won’t necessarily be done quickly or even in just one year, but small plans can get you closer to that goal, and you’ll probably have fun inching along in your progress.
