Snail Mail Goal

By Tana M. Mann Easton, Lead Efficiency Engineer

When I was young, I had a few pen pals.  These people were girls my age who were usually people I met at camp or while traveling.  We’d write letters and send photos telling each other what was new in our lives.  Getting tangible mail with penmanship touched by a human being had a thrill that email cannot replicate.  There’s a little bit of magic infused in hard copy letters.  Wouldn’t it be nice to set a goal to cast that magic to your loved ones in the year ahead?

Keep it simple if you’re not used to sending mail.  Maybe you want to get postcards from your local gift shop and resolve to send one postcard out every month (or every week if you’re feeling ambitious).  Pick a person in your circle, let them know you’re thinking of them, and add a line about what’s going on in your world.  It doesn’t have to be time consuming.  Stamp and address that puppy, put it in the mailbox, and send it on its way.  In a few days it will find its way to the mailbox of your loved one and probably brighten their day.  What could be a better goal than that?
