Too Late This Year? Get A Head Start for Next Year Instead!

By Tana M. Mann Easton, Lead Efficiency Engineer

We’re in the last quarter of 2026.  Are there goals you had for this year that you haven’t started?  Are they still goals you want to work on, but they feel too out of reach for this year?  If you feel defeated with a goal and like it’s too late for 2026, can you be Jedi mind-tricked into starting now to get ahead in the goal for 2027 instead?

For example, let’s say I wanted to learn how to play guitar in 2026.  It’s October, and I haven’t even started with this goal.  I feel deflated and like I’ve failed.  It’s too late.  I’m behind.  But what if I reframe the goal parameters in my mind?  What if I change the goal to a 2027 goal instead?  And I decide that I don’t want to wait until January 1, 2027, to start, but I’d like to get ahead and have 3 months of practice under my belt before the year even starts.  I go from feeling like I’m on my heels to feeling like I’m on my toes.  I go from feeling behind to feeling ahead.  Just a simple perspective change can get me motivated to start now even though it felt like it was hopeless just one perspective ago.

Do you have untouched goals for 2026?  Change them to a 2027 goal instead and get ahead by starting now.
