Phone Banishment Goal
By Tana M. Mann Easton, Lead Efficiency Engineer
Did you know that research has found that simply having your phone in your field of vision can distract you? Even if it’s completely silent with no notifications, the mere physical presence of your phone can still attract your attention. If you’re having a hard time focusing and suspect your phone is playing a role in your distractions, consider a phone banishment goal.
Set a goal and intention that when you need to do your deep focused work during the day, you banish your phone out of your line of sight. You could put it in a drawer or simply behind your computer screen. If you find you’re still reaching for it when you don’t intend, perhaps you need to banish it to a place outside of the room or at least somewhere you’d need to stand up to access. Set that goal to at least once a day get the phone out of your field of vision to focus on the work that is most important in your life and see if it makes a difference.
