Reflect and Adjust

By Tana M. Mann Easton, Lead Efficiency Engineer

Have you fallen off track with a goal this year?  Don’t fret!  All is not lost.

Get curious about why you’ve fallen off track.  Think of it as a science experiment, and you’re just collecting data.  Ask yourself, what threw you off?  If your goal is to walk outside daily, did you miss a day because it was raining?  If your goal is to cut sugar from your diet, did you partake in sugar because you were stuck late at work and that was all that was available when you got hungry?  Like a scientist, really try and figure out what got between you and your goal.

Then, ask what small change could make it easier for you not to fall off track next time you encounter that speed bump.  Maybe you could get some good waterproof shoes and a raincoat so you can enjoy walking outside even if it’s raining.  Maybe you make sure to have a sugar free snack in your bag each time you go to work in case you need to stay late and get hungry.

Small tweaks compound over time.  So if you’ve missed the mark on your goals, act like a scientist and reflect and adjust until you’re back on the path you’ve chosen.
