Reset Quickly to Advance Your Goals

By Tana M. Mann Easton, Lead Efficiency Engineer

When striving for our goals, we will inevitably have days when we don’t do what we intend.  We might accidentally sleep through our workout.  Something could come up that makes practicing our free throws or guitar (or whatever other habit we’re trying to pick up) impossible for the day.  Everyone has days with setbacks.  But people who succeed in their goals know how to reset quickly from those setbacks.

Don’t make stepping away from your goals a pattern.  If you have a daily goal and life makes that goal impossible one day, try your hardest not to miss a second day.  Two days are the start of a pattern, and getting back on track gets harder as the days pile up.  Make it non-negotiable that if you miss one day, the next has to happen.

Reality can sometimes get in the way of our goals.  But a quick reset by not making failure a pattern can still keep us on the path that we set for ourselves.
